Dashboard Radio 1.0.1
Well, that was fast.
New:
Hover over the track name to see who posted it and how many plays it’s gotten without having to click through to the full post.
Fixed:
A bug where the extension could lock during buffering.
The update should proliferate through DNS and appear in extension updates soon, but if you’re impatient:
Download Dashboard Radio 1.0.1.
On a side note,...

Staff:
iPhone users: Grab the update to Tumblr for iPhone 1.2.1 for more multitasking support, Retina graphics, and bug fixes!
In particular, Tumblr for iPhone now supports posting in the background. Large photo posts in areas with low bandwidth be damned! Now you can at least post on Twitter about how long your photo post is taking to post while your photo post is taking a long time to post.
A Notice Wherein I Try Not to Be a Dick but...
Please don’t send me bug reports through ‘Ask a question’. I really hate to be rude but there are very good reasons you shouldn’t do this:
I have no way of answering you privately. The question feature does not provide me with a direct method of communication with you so my only option is to post our conversation on my blog (which isn’t going to happen).
While I...
iOS developers: Tumblr supported in ShareKit →
developers:
ShareKit is an open source drop-in for iOS apps that allows users to share URLs, images, and text with various services. Thanks to Jamie Pinkham, ShareKit now supports sharing with Tumblr!
Download the latest release.
That was just a weekend project. Wait until you see what he’s really been working on.
ShareKit →
nikf:
This looks super-handy: a drop-in web service sharing for iOS apps (think posting items to Twitter, Facebook, Delicious etc). It’s open source on GitHub, and entirely customisable. Whilst it’s intended to be used in its entirety, if you’re wanting to (say) implement Twitter sharing in your own iPhone app with xAuth login you can still use ShareKit to implement the service on its...
Anonymous asked: Jeff, In your latest post you said the following about the current Tumblr iphone app:
"It was my first foray into software development and taught me a great deal of patience."
Does that mean that you never developed a phone app for before?. I guess that to develop those apps you need some knowledge so my final question is, What is your exactly your...

bxlewi1 asked: Are you seeing any issues with the Tumblr iPhone app with the iPhone 4? It's early and anecdotal, but I find my phone needing a hard reset some time after using the app. Nothing pointed in crash reports, but just odd.

Bloomberg Claims Verizon Wireless Will Offer... →
Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. mobile-phone company, will start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone next year, ending AT&T Inc.’s exclusive hold on the smartphone in the U.S., two people familiar with the plans said.
Odd proclamation by a reputable news source. There’s no mention of ‘rumor’ in the article, either. It does seem plausible though. If the exclusivity agreement...

WWDC10 Impressions
Since I’m at the airport 2 hours before the plane arrives for my 6 hour flight, I thought I’d post some quick thoughts about the week. I cannot comment about actual session content due to the NDA, so I’ll keep to overall impressions. Feel free to ask me about anything and I’ll answer as much as I’m allowed to convey.
I have been to 3 WWDC’s. The first one was...

Gray Powell will be forever known as the guy who lost the iPhone, thanks to Jesus Diaz. But now Jesus Diaz will be forever known as the guy who calls himself a technology reporter, yet had an iPhone 4 in his hands for a week and missed almost everything that was interesting about it.
That works for me.
No More iTunes by Florian Pichler →
Safari Extensions:
NoMoreiTunes is an extension for Safari 5 which disables the script that tries to start iTunes when you visit a link to the iTunes Store. It’s annoying and redundant as there is iTunes Preview for Music and Apps now.
Since this doesn’t work on movies I modified the redirecting page for them to show a big button which loads iTunes once (and only if) you click it. I’m working...

Cultural Cringe
Clinton Duncan:
In Australia, we have this thing called “cultural cringe.” I could go on and on for ages about the origins of this phenomena, but that’s why we have Wikipedia. Simply put, it’s when a society thinks pieces of culture (movies, fashion, ideas, art) are inherently better when produced overseas, and locally grown culture develops an inferiority complex. Other countries have it, but...
45 days later: iPad apps →
Neven Mrgan:
Tumblr website - Close to great on the iPad. With a few adjustments, it would replace the official app (which they don’t have an iPad version of).
Strangely enough, I felt the same way for the first few weeks. The Dashboard works very well on iPad. I was so impressed with it that I was toying with the idea of no iPad app at all.
But then it hit me. In my mind, Tumblr...
The Fallacy of the Chilling Effect →
Zac Bir:
So, some people are upset about Apple’s draconian iPhone/iPad development policies.
Some people are less upset with Apple than with other developers who aren’t as upset about those policies as they ought to be.
Well, the developers who aren’t upset, the ones who are dealing with the reality of the situation, aren’t toadies. They aren’t capitulating. They aren’t abdicating....

Saddle Up
Steve Jobs:
We know from painful experience that letting a third party layer of software come between the platform and the developer ultimately results in sub-standard apps and hinders the enhancement and progress of the platform. If developers grow dependent on third party development libraries and tools, they can only take advantage of platform enhancements if and when the third party...
