Which one of these is not like the others?
Over the past couple years or so the Discovery network has been refreshing all their network logo’s. Overall they seen to care about this (except in one glaring example), and for some reason I care. Emily will tell you that it’s because I’m a design snob, and to that I proudly say probably so.
Let’s review, shall we?
They’ve saved the best for last. Everything from the word alignment of ‘channel’ with the descender of the ‘y’, to the kerning is spot on. My favorite thing about it is that as tempting as it was (and to the chagrin of the network executives I’m sure), they didn’t put the Earth over the fucking ‘o’. Classy.
Looks great. And what says science better than the periodic table? Nice, clean, and simple.
Well, it certainly isn’t the most thought i’ve ever seen go into a logo, but it isn’t necessarily bad either. Although, sometimes on TV it tends to look a little Apple-licious with all the gloss, but overall I give it a 3 out of 5.
…
What in the sweet christ happened here? Quick, someone deploy the Unfuckotron! I know Animal channel is third-tier, but did they have to let one of the orangutans design the logo? Why is the ‘n’ the same width as the ‘i’ and the second ‘a’? Worst of all, what’s with the sideways ‘m’? Does this have some understood meaning to animals that I’m not aware of? Do meercats process typography sideways or something? I mean, why not just arbitrarily flip the ‘t’ in planet? This is such a train wreck that it pisses me off when I pass by it in the TiVo guide. At least the last logo had a goddamn elephant in it.
