Bought a house & moved to a new city

It was time to move. Emily had just graduated from medical school as an M.D. and had to choose a residency program (Pathology FTW!). We went all over the east coast on her interviews and eventually came up with 2 places: Washington DC and Richmond. DC was cool, but expensive and pretty crowded. We could live outside the city bounds somewhere, but she had to be within 30 minutes of the hospital at all times. That’s a tall order in DC traffic (and that might be an understatement). Richmond was a different story. We could pretty much have our way there, and we’d heard it was pretty cool, too.

So Richmond it was. Next issue? Faced with the prospect of moving to a new city, Emily and I had a pretty big choice to make: Rent or Buy.

In the end we bought a house. Yes, it was right before the collapse of the modern American economy, and yes, we’ll probably only be here for 5 years, but why not? Living in a posh apartment in downtown would have cost more than the mortgage we ended up getting, and the house is pretty awesome (if I do say so myself). Plus it serves as a (temporary) base of operations for Mobelux.

That said, Richmond is a little bit of a mixed bag for us so far. We’ve met some great people and been to neat places, but its not home yet. I’m sure that in time it will grow on us, but in the meantime we’re only and hour and a half from Norfolk.

So if you ever find yourself in Richmond, VA, like beer and good food, stop on by! When Emily isn’t on call we can be quite entertaining :) View high resolution
