What meetup did you attend?

It would be great if Richmond was large enough to have a tumblr meetup like those bastards in New York and San Francisco.

Super-Arby’s

Have any of you been to an Arby’s in Richmond? In Norfolk, you could get the standard stuff. You know, a roast beef sandwich slathered in melted cheddar, curly fries, Market Fresh sandwiches, etc. “served” by some 16 year old mouth-breather with cystic acne.

In Richmond you can get a whole rotisserie chicken with steamed broccoli. There’s even real barbecue sauce in bottles on the table.

How does something like this happen? Even some of the other stuff is different.

Example! I went there Monday and didn’t want a roast beef sandwich. What can I say, I try to keep my whole chicken-eating ritual confined to full moons. I reluctantly ordered a Market Fresh sandwich.

There are many reasons that I usually avoid these.

The bread is always kind of soggy.
They have cold-cut grocery store grade turkey slices on them.
The lettuce & tomato are usually pretty gross.

Anyway, I order and the guy says “that’ll be $7.00”.

Motherfucker! Seven bucks? For a Market Fresh sandwich?

Ugh.

I pay the man and he hands me a pager (See? I told you it was different).

$7 Redemption

But then, magic.

I get my sandwich and it’s wonderful. The bread is toasted. The meat inside is cut from a roasted rotisserie chicken. It’s juicy. The vegetables are just-cut good.

I’m starting to wonder if all the other Arby’s in the country are some kind of econo-Arby’s and these are the real deal. It also begs the question: should Arby’s be segmenting their restaurants into “premium” and “regular” with no distinction on the sign out front?
